Coffee beans are naturally green, but they are usually roasted by the manufacturer before being sold to the consumer which turns them brown.
Coffee beans are naturally loaded with antioxidants and pharmacologically active compounds, two of the most important ones being Caffeine and Chlorogenic Acid.
Most of the chlorogenic acid is removed when coffee is roasted . For this exact reason, regular coffee beans won’t have the same effect even though there are plenty of other good reasons to drink coffee.
Chlorogenic Acid is believed to be the main active ingredient in green coffee beans. This ingredient can reduce body weight, reduce fat absorbed from the diet, reduce fat stored in the liver and improve the function of the fat burning hormone adiponectin. Caffiene, the other main ingredient, has also been shown to boost the metabolism.
L-carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid found mostly in meat and dairy products.
It can be produced by the body as long as you’re also eating enough of two other amino acids that it can’t produce, which are lysine and methionine.
L-carnitine serves several vital functions in the body, mostly related to the production of energy. Therefore, it’s not surprising that most of the L-carnitine in the body is found in the muscles, which have to be able to quickly generate a tremendous amount of energy for movement.
People supplement with L-carnitine to increase their body’s carnitine stores, especially the carnitine levels in their muscles which can produce a number of beneficial effects, including less muscle soreness and better post-workout recovery which is good for people who do regular weight training and exercise.
L-Glutamine is one of the most important nutrients for a healthy digestive tract because of its ability to maintain the integrity of the intestinal wall. This amino acid is the most abundant amino acid in the body and also heals all tissue in the body, especially those irritated tissues in the digestive tract. It is also known as the calming amino acid since it’s very effective at reducing anxiety, as well as sugar and alcohol cravings.
Hydrolysed whey protein is an very pure form of whey protein. Hydrolysed Whey Protein is made through a process known as hydrolysis, where the protein chains are broken down, or “pre-digested”, into smaller segments via treatment with enzymes. This produces much smaller protein particles called peptides which are easily absorbed in the body. This also means that hydrolysed whey protein has a much faster rate of digestion and absorption. Hydrolysed whey protein is therefore often used to improve the recovery and protein synthesis process needed after a workout.
Algae in recent years has grown in popularity and can be bought in capsule form in many stores and also in various forms. Spirulina and chlorella are two examples of products derived from algae.
Spirulina is an extraordinarily rich source of protein, which accounts for about 60 percent of the algae’s overall composition. This compares with soybeans at 34 percent protein, beef with 17 percent protein and eggs at 12 percent protein. Spirulina also delivers high levels of vitamin B-12, offering 200 mcg of the vitamin for every 100 grams of the algae.
Kelp, a strain of marine algae, is a rich source of iodine and a number of other important nutrients, including essential fatty acids, fiber, potassium, protein and sodium.
Chlorella, another micro algae, is full of chlorophyll, providing the richest food source of the green pigment, which the body can use to cleanse and heal its organs.
In addition to its rich stores of chlorophyll, chlorella contains a wide array of other nutrients, including beta carotene, selenium, zinc, vitamins B-12, C and E and a substance called Chlorella Growth Factor. This supports the body’s immune system as it stimulates the healing and replacement of cellular tissue.
Homemade Almond & Coconut Butter
300g Almonds blended.
180g pure coconut oil.
Small amount of macadamia oil.
First, blend the 300g of almonds until a paste consistency is achieved.
Any blender will do the job but personally use a Vitamix blender.
Once this is blended, add the 180g of pure coconut oil to the almond paste.
Once mixed in the blender, add a splash of macadamia oil to the mix and blend again.
Pour the finished mix into jars and store them at room temperature.
Butter is always best eaten when it is of a paste consistency rather than as a liquid.
Fresh vegetables contain almost all of the nutritional principles that our body requires. They are a good source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and dietary fibre.
Vegetable nutrition has widely drawn the attention of food scientists for their proven health benefits. Majority of day-to-day used vegetables are very low in calories and saturated fats. For example, watercress and Celery hold just 11 and 16 calories per 100g . There is a long list of vegetables whose calorie is less than 20 per 100g such as bottle gourd, bitter melon, cabbage, bok-choy, eggplant, endive, spinach, and summer squash. Scientific studies have shown that these low-calorie but nutrient-rich foods help human body stay fit, and free from diseases.
Furthermore, human body spends a considerable amount of energy for the metabolism of foods, which is known as BMR or Basal metabolism rate. So when you add lots of vegetable nutrition in your everyday diet, in fact, you set to lose more weight than you would gain.
How much should be in your daily diet?
Eat at least 5-7 servings of fresh vegetables every day. Bring variety in the choice of vegetables in your everyday diet. Yellow and orange color vegetables are rich in Vitamin-A, α, ß carotenes, zea-xanthins and crypto-xanthins, whereas dark-green vegetables are a good source of minerals and phenolic, flavonoid as well as anthocyanin anti-oxidants.
Coconut is a very versatile and indispensable food item for most people under the tropical belt. It is a complete food rich in calories, vitamins, and minerals. A medium-sized nut carrying 400 g edible meat and some 30-150 ml of water may provide almost all the daily-required essential minerals, vitamins, and energy of an average-sized individual.
100 g kernel holds 354 calories. Much of this comes from the fats and protein. Although its meat is disproportionately high in saturated fats in comparison to other common edible nuts, coconut has many health promoting bioactive compounds.
The important saturated fatty acid in the coconut is lauric acid (1:12 carbon fatty acid). Lauric acid increases good-HDL cholesterol levels in the blood. HDL is a high-density lipoprotein, which has beneficial effects on the coronary arteries by preventing vessel blockage (atherosclerosis). Physicians recommend high HDL to total cholesterol levels in the blood for the same reason.
Coconut water is a very refreshing drink to beat tropical summer thirst. The juice is packed with simple sugar, electrolytes, minerals, and bioactive compounds such as cytokinin, and enzymes such as acid phosphatase, catalase, dehydrogenase, peroxidase, polymerases, etc. Altogether, these enzymes aid in digestion and metabolism.
Water is essential for life because it helps regulate body temperature, maintain blood volume and your body uses water to transport both nutrients and weight.
In fact, an adult’s body is about 55 to 60 percent water and lack of water intake or increased water loss will result in dehydration.
How Much Water Does A Person Need Each Day?
It is recommended that the average woman needs to get around 2 litres of water a day and a man needs around 2.5 litres through various means such as in food and drinks.
